Owner operators Mark & Janice Hinton after traveling extensively through Australia & New Zealand envisioned a concept of offering the independent and backpacker traveler into Fiji the highest quality accommodation experience at budget rates. It all began when they acquired  Horizon Beach Resort and Travel Centre in December of 2002. With 14 rooms and 22 dorm beds they began by upgrading facilities and securing industry relationships and it was not long before Horizon became one of the most popular destination for budget travelers into Nadi. Horizon actually operated at over 100% occupancy for several years prior to the opening of Smugglers Cove!
 

In 2004 Mark & Janice acquired a beachfront block adjacent to Horizon and commenced drawing up plans, using the experience they gained to develop the ultimate upmarket backpacker resort. With the exuberance of their clientele in mind a Pirate/Sea Adventure theme was considered to further compliment the sun, fun and sand experience.
 

Smugglers Cove was born in April of 2006. The resort has 22 rooms, Pirates Dormitory and the Ghostship Bar & Grill located right on the beach. This is where pirates of all nations gather to relax and enjoy their spoils!

With the success of a vision that started in 2002 Mark & Janice opened Smugglers Cove new Beach Wing extension in April 2011. The new Beach Wing  has 18 rooms and 28 dorm beds - 5 x 4 bed mixed dormitory rooms & an 8 bed Girls Sanctuary Dorm room. It also boasts new facilities such as Senikai Spa, Reef Safaris Dive Shop, Malolo Surf Shack and the Cove Cafe specializing in desserts, light lunches and exceptionally fine coffee.

In total Horizon, Smugglers Cove and the new Beach Wing have a total of 52 rooms ranging from Standard to 4 star rated Oceanfront Balcony rooms and 84 dorm beds.
